🚘 Thanks for Testing GoCarma in Seattle!

We’re excited to have you try GoCarma on the SR 520 floating bridge as part of Washington’s Toll Technology Pilot.

GoCarma is designed to make tolling easier, smarter, and more transparent — no toll tags, no camera-based guessing, no hassle.

🔍 How It Works

GoCarma uses your smartphone’s location to detect when you drive across the SR 520 Floating Bridge. It automatically processes a transaction — with no buttons to tap and no roadside infrastructure needed.

During this pilot, GoCarma is not connected to the toll system, and so you must continue to pay tolls as you normally would.

You’ll see the toll rate on your home screen as soon as you reach your destination — no waiting for a bill in the mail.

✅ What You Need to Do

To make sure your trip is detected correctly, just follow these quick steps:

  • Add any vehicle you drive on SR 520 in the app (whether you're a driver or a passenger)

  • Enable location and Bluetooth permissions when prompted

  • Confirm your vehicle's Bluetooth ID when prompted (this helps the app to know in which vehicle you're traveling)

  • Make sure you see "Setup: OK" at the top of the app’s home screen

  • Then just drive!

  • After you finish your trip, open the app and confirm the toll rate shown

  • Need help? Just tap Contact Us in the app menu

⁉️FAQs

About the Pilot

Why is the Washington State Transportation Commission conducting this pilot?

  • The Washington State Transportation Commission, at the direction of the Washington State Legislature, is conducting the tolling technology pilot to assess the viability and accuracy of advanced tolling technologies.

  • The pilot will evaluate whether advanced tolling technologies can increase the ease of paying tolls for drivers and reduce the costs of toll systems in the future.

Who is managing the pilot?

  • The Washington State Transportation Commission (Commission) is overseeing the pilot, including pilot communications. The Commission will submit a final report with pilot findings to the Legislature prior to the 2026 Legislative Session.

  • The Washington State Department of Transportation (WSDOT) Toll Division is a pilot partner that will provide technical input and support participant communications and recruitment.

  • CDM Smith is the prime consultant on the pilot. CDM Smith will oversee the pilot design and implementation.

  • Carma Technology Corporation (Carma) will provide and operate the toll technology being tested in the pilot, specifically the GoCarma smartphone app which will record toll passages.

How does the pilot influence future tolling policies?

  • The Washington State Transportation Commission will work with its prime consultant, CDM Smith, to analyze pilot results and produce a report of findings following the conclusion of the pilot.

  • The report is due to the Washington State Legislature prior to the 2026 Legislative Session.

Questions about Pilot Participation

Will I be charged for tolls incurred during the pilot?

  • Participants are required to continue paying for their Good To Go! tolls as they normally would.

  • The pilot does not replace existing toll payments and participants will need to keep using their current Good To Go! technology like they normally would for toll roads in Washington.

  • Participants will not have to pay additional charges for toll passages detected during the pilot via the GoCarma app. Pilot toll rates used are theoretical and are displayed in the GoCarma app for illustrative purposes only. Participants will not be asked to provide payment or credit card information during the pilot.

Who should I contact with questions or concerns about the pilot?

  • Please use the Commission’s contact form to ask questions about the pilot.

  • Participants can also utilize our in-app customer support feature to ask questions about the technical features of the app.

  • If you have questions about your Good To Go! account, please go to the Washington State Department of Transportation (WSDOT) Good To Go! contact page here.

How do I get my $50 incentive for completing the pilot?

  • To qualify for the $50 incentive, participants must have driven on the SR 520 floating bridge at least once a week (on average) during the pilot and complete the exit survey.

  • On behalf of the Commission, CDM Smith will administer pilot incentives after the pilot is concluded and will be using a payment partner (Tremendous) to distribute incentives by email. You will not be requested to provide payment or credit card information to receive your incentive.

Who will have access to the information I provide in this pilot?

  • GoCarma will detect your toll passages on the SR 520 floating bridge.

  • CDM Smith will collect participant survey data from two surveys – an intake survey sent before the start of the pilot and a pilot exit survey sent at the end of the pilot.

  • All participant survey responses will be kept anonymous and used for statistical analysis only for the final report that is prepared for the Washington Legislature.

    • Any identifying information, like your name or email address will be removed or replaced with a unique code. Your responses will be analyzed without any personal identifiers.

    • The final report will only include aggregate data (e.g., percentages, averages), but individual responses will not be identifiable.

Privacy and Data Handling

What data will be collected?

  • During pilot enrollment and the GoCarma app set-up process, your name, email, mobile phone number, vehicle license plate number, and your Good To Go! Toll tag number will be collected. This enrollment data will be used to communicate with you throughout the pilot and identify the vehicle you enrolled in the pilot.

  • During the pilot, the GoCarma app will collect data related to your location, date, time, and direction of travel on the SR 520 floating bridge. This pilot data will be anonymized (all personal information will be removed) and used for the sole purpose of evaluating the effectiveness and accuracy of GoCarma’s location-based tolling technology.

  • At the end of the pilot, survey data will be collected to assess your experience with the GoCarma application. This survey data will be anonymized (all personal information will be removed) and used for statistical analysis only.

How will my information be protected?

  • All data collected will be handled in accordance with applicable privacy laws and best practices to ensure your information is protected.

  • Your data will not be used or shared for any purposes beyond the scope of this pilot program. Your data will not be sold, used for marketing, or disclosed to third parties outside of the research team conducting the evaluation.

  • All data collected is kept on secure servers administered in compliance with applicable data protection regulations.

  • All data collected will be anonymized (all personal information will be removed) and used for research purposes only.
