Everything you need to know about getting setup with GoCarma

GoCarma is the only way to receive HOV toll discounts on TEXpress Lanes in Dallas-Fort Worth during the weekday peak periods (6:30 a.m. to 9:00 a.m. and 3:00 p.m. to 6:30 p.m.).

Here’s how to get started with GoCarma in 4 easy steps!

Step 1: Ensure you and your passengers each download and sign up to GoCarma

To qualify for an HOV toll discount, there must be at least two people in the vehicle with the GoCarma app on their phone as you drive in the TEXpress Lane.

Each person in the vehicle must download GoCarma and create their own account.

Confirm you are set up correctly. Once you have completed the setup process, you can confirm that your GoCarma setup is ok simply by opening the app. At the top of the screen, you should see a blue bar with the words “Setup OK”.

If you do not, you may still need to update your app permissions. In this case, please follow the on-screen instructions to correct your setup. If you have any questions, just send us a message.

Travel with kids? No problem. If you travel on DFW TEXpress Lanes with a child or an adult who does not have a smartphone, you may request an Occupant Pass. This is a small Bluetooth device that can be carried in a pocket or bag to ensure that person is counted in the vehicle.

Step 2: Add Your Vehicle

You should add any vehicle you may travel in on DFW TEXpress Lanes.

Simply add the vehicle when prompted during sign up, or at any time by going to the Vehicles screen and following the in-app instructions.

Step 3: Drive on DFW TEXpress Lanes

The GoCarma app will automatically activate when you travel in a TEXpress Lane during weekday peak periods even when the app is closed on your phone. It will use a combination of GPS and Bluetooth to verify your proximity to other GoCarma users in the vehicle.

As long as there are at least two GoCarma users in the vehicle, you will qualify for an HOV toll discount.

When you reach your destination, it’s a good idea to open the app and check to see if your travel was verified as “HOV”. It can take a few hours for your status to update to HOV, so if it doesn’t show HOV straight away, check back later in the day.

Step 4: Check Your Home Screen

The home screen displays information about the eligibility of your recent TEXpress Lane transactions for an HOV discount.

When GoCarma has confirmed that there are at least 2 people in the car, you will see "HOV: Yes" and confirmation that this transaction "Qualified for HOV Toll Discount".

It can take some hours for your TEXpress Lane toll transactions to appear on the home screen, so if you don't see them there please check back later. More information here.

You may also check your toll bill to ensure the discount is applied. Any toll transaction for which you received an HOV discount will be clearly marked as “HOV2+-50%”.
